Here is our statement about ‘coronavirus’

Take it seriously but keep calm

There has been a lot of media coverage of the COVID-19 or ‘coronavirus’ lately, so we wanted to take this opportunity to let you know the facts about how we protect your health at Float in the Forest.

It’s natural to have concerns, perhaps even some fear about COVID-19, but it’s important not to panic, and for us all to base our actions on rational scientific advice.

 Floating is low risk

Floatation is a low risk activity, particularly when it comes to COVID-19.

You may have heard advice about avoiding crowds of people. Our float appointments are every two hours, so there are never many people at the float centre at once. And you can’t get much further from the crowds than floating alone in a pod in your own private room. That’s real self-isolation!

You may have heard advice about washing your hands. When you come to float you not only wash your hands, but have a whole-body shower. Twice.

 We clean a lot

At Float in the Forest we have been sanitising since before it was cool. Check out how often our reviews mention the word ‘clean’.

We have rigorous processes and procedures based on current best practice within the floatation industry, which is informed by experts in the fields of microbiology and public health. These procedures are updated in line with best practices if and when the expert advice changes.

We clean the float rooms thoroughly between every person. That includes sanitising the touchpoints and surfaces with a powerful virucide that kills COVID-19 in a contact time of less than 1 minute. Word to the wise: if you are choosing such a product yourself, be sure to check the ‘contact’ or ‘dwell’ time that it needs to be effective.

We also regularly clean and sanitise the touchpoints around the centre through the day. That’s things like the door handles and push plates.

The float pod has a state-of-the-art sanitation system

When it comes to the float itself, for a start the 550 kg of Magnesium Sulphate dissolved in the water makes a very inhospitable environment for microorganisms. Then there’s the sanitation system of our pods. This is state of the art, and uses high intensity UV light and Hydrogen Peroxide in combination in a process called photocatalytic oxidation. This creates Hydroxyl radicals, which have an oxidation potential more than twice that of Chlorine. That’s in addition to the one micron filter (which is 100 times smaller than a human hair).

COVID-19 is easy to kill

So we have a suite of powerful measures in place to kill microorganisms. And COVID-19 is an enveloped virus so it’s easy to kill. Enveloped viruses have an outer lipid layer which they need to function. They are easily inactivated by routine surface cleaning and sanitising.

Please don’t come if you’re ill

With all that said, we would like to reiterate: please do not come to float if you are ill. It’s an obvious measure to prevent transmission, and you will see in our terms and conditions that you must not float if you have an infectious illness. If you have an upcoming appointment and you feel unwell, please contact us to reschedule. It would be great if you can give us as much notice as you can.

Float to de-stress

You can rest assured that is is still safe to float. Not only safe, but a great way to de-stress, and take care of yourself in these troubled times. Getting proper rest can boost your immune response. So don’t freak out, chill out.
