My first ever float was 9 months postpartum.

It was the first time in a while that I truly had time alone in complete silence.

At first it felt unusual, the feeling of I shouldn’t be here – like I should be doing something else.

Feeding, changing or bathing, the list is never ending but once I got into the pod my body instantly felt relief and comfort from the velvety water, it felt like a big warm hug that I so desperately needed.

It’s natural to feel nervous

During my float I was a bit nervous to switch the light off and float in the dark, I’m not sure where this fear came from as I don’t mind being in the dark.

I had learned after my float that this was a common fear in floating and no one really knows where this concept has come from.

This made me really think about how our fears are all in our mind and how floating opens a door into our subconscious and allows us to unveil these thoughts and fears and how we have the power to change how we think.

Space to realise

After my float I had a burst of emotions good and bad, it made me realise I had been living in survival mode without even knowing it.

Being a first time mum, I was still navigating this new journey, the new me, and I had forgotten to look after myself.

Floating has allowed me to indulge into a deeper sense of relaxation, a moment to rest and revitalise my well-being.

A new perspective

Floating monthly has definitely changed my perspective on being a mum, and this new version of myself, for the better.

I didn’t realise how important it is to look after yourself, give yourself grace and take time-out for yourself.

Floating postpartum can be done as soon as you’ve fully healed.

I have noticed that floating regularly helped reduce my stress levels massively and eased my muscle tension. That rippled out into the next few days, plus I have so much fun doing it too!

To all the mums reading this, I highly recommend coming in for a float.
