Meet the team… Tara

Continuing our theme of introducing you to the wonderful members of our fab little team, today we are introducing Tara.

Part of the Float in the Forest team since:

March 2025

Floating for:

About a year and a half.

Meet Hayley

Tell us a little about yourself:

I am 39 years old and a busy mum who juggles work and university.

What brought you to Float in the Forest?

I joined as a member of Float in the Forest a couple of months before I spotted the job listing, and so was aware of this beautiful place (and of course Shari and Will) before I started working here.

What’s your favourite part of your role?

I love the variety in my role as no two days are the same. There is a fine blend of the physical, psychological and spiritual in my role as either cleaner, administrator or facilitator, all to ensure your experience here is as wonderful as possible.

Though the highlight of the job is definitely getting to give Chai (Shari and Will’s gorgeous dog) tummy rubs when she comes in!

What would you tell someone who is apprehensive about floating?

I was once in your shoes.

Floating is a new experience, there is nothing quite like it and so no past experiences to compare with. It is completely normal and human to feel apprehensive about the unknown.

I would love for you to come and talk through any specific concerns before you float – our role is to reassure and guide you with the wealth of experience and advice we have gained as float hosts. Floating is a wonderful thing and unique to each person – I would love everyone to be able to experience it for themselves.

Favourite float position?

Generally floating around like a starfish!

What is your favourite colour light for the float room?

I normally switch between pink and turquoise depending on the temperature outside, although I may soon switch it up a bit with green and red!

Do you float with the light on or off?

It is entirely dependant on the how I feel in the pod.

If I am having a dreamy, deeply relaxing and meditative float then it’s lights out and I imagine I’m floating through infinity.

When I’m in a more stimulated and creative mood I have the lights cycling through different spectrums of colour while I give my mind the freedom to process whatever it needs to.

Tea or coffee?

Most definitely coffee. Hot, iced, liqueur based, chocolate coated, as icing on a walnut cake – in whatever form it comes!

Favourite place in nature?

The forest during a storm (although that’s not recommended for health and safety reasons) so I settle for rain soundscapes through my headphones on an evening walk through the woods.

I also love the other-worldly trees (like those in Puzzlewood) and elsewhere in the forest, if you know where to find them!

One thing people might not know about you:

I once got through the initial selection process to join MI6 (but then decided to choose a different career path) – I sometimes wonder how my life as a secret agent would have been…

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Not really advice, but the idiom ‘manners maketh man’ – which I heard as a young girl from my grandmother has always stuck with me – but then so has ‘snug as a bug in a rug’.

I guess they are linked in so far as: if you behave properly towards others, you have greater peace of mind and an untroubled conscience – meaning you can sleep soundly knowing that you were kind to people, and that really does make a difference.
