Float in the Forest is your floatation centre based in the Forest of Dean. This ancient woodland has a diverse habitat of wildlife and a rich history. The beauty of this location means less traffic, less noise and more space for parking, which makes it a perfect place for a float centre to be.
The Float Centre was founded and created by Shari and Will; their passion for floating is what brought Float in the Forest to life. They have done years of research and floating to find the perfect location and to deliver the best float they can.
We help you prepare
At Float in the Forest, your floating experience starts before you arrive at the float centre. There is an intake form to fill in and an instruction video to watch before your float. This helps you to prepare and gives you an idea of what to expect and what’s expected from you. The instruction video also gives a sense of reassurance and a feel of familiarity when you arrive at the float centre.
As soon as you walk through the door, there is ambient music playing and a delicate fragrance of bergamot and grapefruit in the air. The staff at Float in the Forest are here to be your float guides and to be present with each person who comes to float.
You’re greeted by one of the Float Hosts who will welcome you in, answer any questions you may have, give a brief explanation on what to do, and show you around the float centre and your float room so you are familiar with your surroundings before you get into the pod.
You have your own float space
Once you have had your induction in reception, you will be shown further into the float centre. You will remove any make-up, and use the toilet before your float. Once you enter the corridor through the blue doors, you will enter into either Infinity, Tranquility or Serenity; these are the different float room names. This is your own private room, which is provided with a big fluffy towel, a second towel for your hair if needed, natural toiletries, and earplugs.
In your float room you’ll find space to change, your own shower and the I-sopod float pod. The I-sopod is a unique float pod as it’s the size of a double bed that allows plenty of room to stretch out in all directions. Once you have had your first shower and enter the pod, the music will start to play for about 10 minutes to help you ease into the float and drift off into relaxation, followed by lovely peace and quiet. During this time, it’s your opportunity to do absolutely nothing, be present with yourself and decompress.
Your experience is individual
It’s impossible to explain how your float experience in the pod will be, as everyone is different and one float may be completely different from the next. The I-sopod float pod door can be easily opened with a simple push at any time. If you feel a bit too warm, this may be a great option to control the temperature by getting some cooler air into the pod. And of course you get out of the pod whenever you wish.
You are in control
In the float pod, you are in control of the light and you can turn it on or off any time you like. If you want the light on, you can change the light colour or have it on a colourful rainbow setting.
If you decide to turn the light off, this is where the magic happens: complete sensory deprivation.
Having the light off may seem daunting to some, but there is nothing to worry about. Try experimenting with the light off. If you decide you want the light back on, just reach your left arm, trace it all the way down the metal strut that is connected to the pod door, and you can pop the light back on.
Emerging in comfort
When your float ends music will start to play again (this is how you know the float has come to an end), the pod light will turn back on (if you had the light off), and then the filtration system will start.
Once you have had your second shower and leave your float room, if you want you can use the mirror room where there are hairdryers and face moisturiser available.
Take your time after
Take your time in the lounge – this is a safe and quiet space, where you can slowly return to your senses and adjust to the world in a low-light setting.
This time allows you to enjoy the after effects of the float and reflect on your experience. In the lounge, you can express your emotions and your experience by journaling, enjoying art hung on the walls made by local artists, adult colouring in books, or simply reading more about floating if you are curious!
Refresh yourself
There are complimentary options for refreshments like cold water or a soothing herbal tea.
In addition, you could purchase a yummy ice-cream, sorbet pop and more. These can be added on to your float booking, or ordered in the float centre.
Bring a friend (or 2!)
Float in the Forest has 3 pods in 3 separate private rooms, so we can accommodate 3 people floating at once. This allows friend and family groups to all float at the same time and meet up in the lounge after their float.
The beauty of Float in the Forest is that there is no time pressure on how long you can stay after your float. You can stay and enjoy the lounge for as long as you please!
Exploring nature in your post-float bliss
You will leave the float centre while you are still in that post-float bliss state, and enter a quiet, tranquil environment surrounded by the chirping of birds, the waving of tall trees and the rustle of leaves in the breeze, mirroring your own quiet thoughts.
Your newly awakened senses will appreciate emerging into this natural scenery after your float, rather than urban traffic and busyness that could feel overwhelming and overstimulating. If you are feeling adventurous and have a bit of energy, the Forest of Dean offers so may opportunities that can be enjoyed after a float, such as walking trails, outdoor activities, getting a bite to eat, or simply enjoying the natural beauty.
