Consciousness ExplorationFloatation provides a gateway to step into yourself, and beyond yourself
Floating offers a unique opportunity for self-knowledge and the exploration of consciousness. You are suspended weightless in the silent darkness, free of the distractions of the outside world, liberated into limitless space.
Nowhere else on the planet can you find total freedom from the demands of the external environment on your attention. Nowhere else on the planet can you find total freedom to turn your attention elsewhere: to that within, to that beyond, to that which is timeless and eternal, to that which is primordial; to whatever you wish.
From a purely practical point of view, the float environment provides a state of quietude which can take years of meditation practice to achieve. It gives you a leg-up, a boost in your endeavours, and empowers your explorations by making that calm centre the start point of your experience. Where you go from there is up to you.
You float with nothing but what you bring. When you bring an appetite for exploration, floating can open the door to unlimited possibilities.
“In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true is true or becomes true, within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. In the mind, there are no limits”
John C Lilly
John Lilly invented the floatation tank expressly to explore the mind in the absence of external stimuli. A friend and contemporary of consciousness pioneers Timothy Leary, Allen Ginsberg, Richard Alpert and EJ Gold, in the course of his research Lilly soon realised the power of floating as a tool for the user to discover their unconscious beliefs, and to change them.
Lilly wrote: “In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true is true or becomes true, within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. In the mind, there are no limits”
The floatation environment can be be used to facilitate and support a variety of experiences which may otherwise be more challenging to evoke.
